If you are selling or buying the car – you never sign on the front of the title – only the back. The back is broken down into four sections.

  • The top section is for a person-to-person sale.
  • The person whose name is on the front of the title is selling it to you.
  • You then sign is space for “Purchaser”.
  • The seller signs in space for “Seller”.

If you are buying the car from a licensed Massachusetts dealer – this is where the other three sections come into play – they allow the transfer of the vehicle from dealer to person etc.

The dealer will show you where to sign.
